Collection: Birds

My bird quest started with the woodpeckers - It's not hard to hear a woodpecker's distinctive bird call or whacking away with a rapid hammering noise, but finding them in focus with my camera before they fly away was entirely another matter! Seeing a flash of red from a Red-bellied flying from tree to tree...finding the much smaller Downy foraging insects among winter branches...and spending long minutes observing the large, almost crow-sized Pileated woodpecker clearing a nest hole in a towering pine... Groaning, after finding the Red-headed woodpecker, but without getting any clear photos...

Now, other backyard birds at home and nearby are part of my quest too. Living in a North Texas suburban neighborhood blessed with mature trees and a large lake an easy walk down the street provides a wide variety of bird habitats for migratory and year-round residents (including woodpeckers), and the constant challenge of trying to find them!!

From giant birds like Grackle and Great Blue Heron, Hawks to Hummingbirds, singing Finch, Wrens, and Sparrows, tiny peeping Chickadee and Tufted Titmouse, and daily visits I now look forward to from a pair of Northern Cardinals, I look forward to sharing the discovery and fascination with you through my bird pictures
