Rising towards the sun, the Century Plant blooms once at the end of its lifetime, after 10 - 25 years, with a single, towering stalk of golden-yellow flowers shooting 15 - 30 ft high. A native species of the Big Bend area of western Texas, as well as northern Mexico, it prefers grassy to rocky slopes or woodlands at elevations of 1200 - 2000 m.
